Lead Strip

A large number of lead strips perforated with nail holes have been recovered. Many of these pieces would have been used as internal hull planking patches as a temporary fix for leaks.

These strips could be easily hammered into place to seal leaks quickly and efficiently while at sea, but as mentioned above, such a fix was not guaranteed to last very long.
