Iron Nails and Spikes

A number of different fasteners were used. Iron nails were available for shipboard repairs and may have been used as weapons as well. Iron spikes, usually about a half-inch in size we used mostly in hull construction.

The nails vary from 1.5 to 4 inch in length, and all are square in section. The nails probably were contained in a box or bag that has since deteriorated.
