Brass Straight Pins
Three brass straight pins approximately 1 inch in length were found within a concretion that also contained textile fragments. The pins feature straight shanks that taper to a point and a head fashioned from a second piece of wire wrapped around the shank and flattened into a button. Straight pins are often found on shipwreck sites and do not necessarily represent gender distinctions in the artifact assemblage.
Brass straight pins like the ones pictured here were sometimes wrapped around the shank and flattened into a button.
