Thank you so much for your contribution to the Blackbeard 300th Anniversary Commemoration.

Be sure to check out some of the great content our QAR Research Team has already put together on Blackbeard, the Queen Anne's Revenge, and some of its artifacts.

Preparations are already underway at the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort for a celebration to mark this tricentennial that is certain to garner international attention, provide a tremendous educational opportunity to the public, and increase tourism to our community.  Plans include the use of reenactors dressed in period costumes bringing history to life through dramatic presentations, historic cannon and firearms demonstrations, hands-on children’s activities, an interactive travelling exhibition, artifacts on display and much more.

Perhaps the most iconic object associated with piracy is the fearsome cannon.  The Maritime Museum will be commissioning molds to replicate the cannon that was part of Blackbeard’s pirate flotilla.  One replica will be a pristine cannon; the other will mimic a cannon excavated from the shipwreck site, covered in concretions.  The two cannon will be displayed together to illustrate conservation science used to treat underwater artifacts.

Another highlight will include the creation of a historically accurate Queen Anne’s Revenge replica frigate, incorporating the latest archaeological research about the shipwreck and recently discovered information.  Approximately 4-feet in length, the reproduction will be built according to educational standards within the museum industry.  The exhibit will also include some of the actual artifacts excavated from the shipwreck site in various stages of conservation treatment.  Exhibit panels with vibrant images and written text will help audiences understand the history of the ill-fated ship.

After the tricentennial celebrations, these replicas will be housed at the Maritime Museum in Beaufort, which has an annual attendance rate of 206,000, so that future generations of North Carolinians will be able to learn more about one of the state’s most notorious historical figures.

Feel free to contact Kimberly Kandros with any questions or concerns as we continue to commemorate Blackbeard's impressive legacy.
